- Respect: Respect your instructors, training partners, the art of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), and the facilities. This includes keeping a positive attitude, using appropriate language, and maintaining good personal hygiene.
- Safety: Safety is paramount. Never use techniques in a way that could cause injury to yourself or your training partner. Always communicate openly about any discomfort or pain during training. When doing submissions, act slowly. In case of pain you should tap with your hands or feet on the mat or on directly on the opponent; if this is not possible, you should say: “Tap Tap!”
Likewise, always stop whenever the opponent taps. - Dress code: We do mostly NoGi, which means we leave home those beautiful kimonos. Ideally you should have a sport shirt with sleeves (ideally long sleeves) and some shorts without pockets. Between your genitals and the opponent’s there should be 4 layers of clothing, so underwear-shorts-shorts-underwear.
- Hygiene: Your training clothes should be clean and in good repair for every training session. This helps to prevent the spread of infections and shows respect for your partners.
- No Ego: Leave your ego at the door. The purpose of BJJ training is to learn and grow, not to prove who is the strongest or the most dominant.
- Consent: Never force a partner to engage in a training exercise or sparring session they are uncomfortable with.
- Discrimination: Discrimination of any kind will not be tolerated. Our community values diversity and strives for inclusivity.
- Sportsmanship: Good sportsmanship should be maintained at all times, both in training and in competition. This includes acknowledging your partner’s achievements and accepting defeat graciously.
- Conflict: Any conflicts or issues should be addressed directly with the instructor or gym management.
- Training: Regular attendance is encouraged for your development in BJJ. However, do not attend if you are ill, to protect the health of others. If you feel tired and have issues with your joints, we recommend to come anyways but to limit the sparring sessions.
- Facilities: the training is free, and the facilities are kindly given to us so we should be respectful and leave the gym clean. This consists in: the last one showering should clean the shower floor and from time to time at the end of the training we should clean the tatami together. From time to time we give EUR 20 each as a token of appreciation and respect to the person who lets us use the facilities.
Remember, we are a team, a family. We are here to support each other and grow together in our BJJ journey.
